Morzine is about 40 miles away from Geneva in the
heart of the Portes du Soleil and one of the world's
largest ski areas. It's only about one hour from Geneva
airport so if you get an early flight you can easily be skiing by
the afternoon!
Our chalet in Morzine is the Chamois D'Or which is in a
prime location just seconds away from the Nyon cable
car and ski slopes. The chalet has an outside hot
tub perfect for easing those aching muscles after a long hard
days skiing. The chalet sleeps between 12 to 14 in 6 en-suite
bedrooms, there is an additional bunk bedroom with an en-suite
shower which can be used as a family room with bedroom 2,
each bedroom also has a south facing balcony and stunning
views.
Morzine enjoys stunning Alpine scenery and is nestled between
forests. The village has lost nothing of its original charm and
Savoyard way of life. Morzine has a vibrant feel and lots
of shops and other activities ranging from cinemas,
cleared walking paths, horse drawn sleighs and skating rinks to
swimming pools. There is plenty of après ski life
with dozens of bars and restaurants and our chalet is situated
in a quiet area a 15 minute walk away or only a couple of
minutes in a taxi.
Morzine has something for everyone; it is especially a true
favourite for mixed ability groups, snowboarders and families. The
original ski area is accessed from Morzine by the Pleney lift
station. The ski area is a large but relatively gentle area with
many easy greens, blues and reds plus a couple of blacks on the
Nyon side. Once you have explored the three major areas of Pleney,
Nyon and Les Chavannes you can try out the runs on the other side
of Les Gets on Mont Chery.
Morzine is very child friendly and there are a number
of crèche and nanny facilities in Morzine
Morzine is part of the enormous Les Portes du Soleil are, one of
the largest linked ski area in the world, and consists of 14
resorts from Lake Geneva in Switzerland through to Mont Blanc in
France, with an enormous 650kms of high altitude slopes. With so
much to choose from in this extensive area, skiers of all ability
levels are well catered for. Snowboarders can enjoy themselves too
in the great selection of snow parks with half-pipes and hand
rails, located in many of the resorts of the area. The villages are
well linked by road and by piste, enabling you to clock up as much
or as little mileage under your skis as you like.
The top resorts in the Portes du Soleil include Avoriaz, Chatel,
Les Gets, and Morzine in France, and Champery in Switzerland. The
resorts differ in style from those with bold modern architecture,
traffic free centres and doorstep skiing through to picturesque old
style Savoyarde towns with pretty chalet style houses and bucket
loads of character.
