La Rosière – The Skiing
Breakfast in France - Lunch in Italy!
That’s what you can do when you have a holiday in the stunning ski area of La Rosière described by the Where to Ski and Snowboard guide 2007 as having “The sunniest slopes in the Tarantaise, but also the snowiest”.
La Rosière is part of the large Espace San Bernardo, being linked to La Thuile in Italy. The area has 150km of pistes, together with 73 runs, 37 lifts and 300 snow cannons to ensure great skiing throughout the long season. The vast majority of the skiing is above 1850m ensuring great snow conditions with the highest on-piste skiing is at 2640m. The resort is south facing, enjoying lovely sunshine but also great snow conditions, in fact you will find that many of the ski instructors from the other resorts in the Tarantaise valley all come here to ski – but they don’t tell anybody in case it gets too popular!

La Rosière is well suited to all skiers from beginners and intermediates, with wide-open reds and blues, through to experts for the challenging reds and blacks. There are several gentle slopes running back into La Rosière so this suits all levels of skiers. And the most testing ski area is the Touraisse sector, which also has some of the best off-piste. La Rosière is the only place in France where experts can legally Heli-ski across the border into Italy down to La Thuile. Snowboarders are well served also with great off-piste runs and there are two Snow Parks. La Rosière’s park is 300m long, it has several graded jumps, 1 Hip, 9 tables, 1 Big Air, 2 Handrails and a Fun Box. La Thuile’s has a good half-pipe.
There are spectacular views from La Rosière down to the Tarentaise valley below. Directly across from our chalet you have great views of Les Arcs and up the valley leading up to Val D'Isere and Tignes. From the slopes you get wonderful views of Bourg St Maurice and the other villages in the valley and there are also great views of Mont Blanc and the other major mountains in the area.
The ski pass prices are very reasonable compared to other resorts with a full area lift pass being only approximately £112 (for adults)and a family lift pass (2 adults and 2 children) being only £361.
Our chalet staff will be pleased to ski host with you on 2 days per week and so you can see the area both in France and Italy, find the best mountain restaurants and all the great pistes. Please note that this is not a substitute for lessons in fact legally we cannot teach you and so ski hosting is not designed for beginners. |
